Track & Field State Meet - Weather Watch
As we finalize preparations for the 2025 UIL State Track Meet, we want to share a few important last-minute reminders to help you plan for the weekend in Austin.
Weather Concerns & Schedule Flexibility
The forecast currently shows a high chance of thunderstorms on Friday, with increasing likelihood throughout the day. This particularly affects 2A and 5A schools, so we strongly encourage you to prepare for potential delays or schedule changes.
While we plan to stick to our original schedule (both morning and afternoon sessions), we have started developing contingency plans in case of a significant disruption in our planned activities. In the event of major disruptions on Friday, some events may be rescheduled to Saturday. For example, if we get our field events in on Friday morning and cannot get our running program in it might be necessary to carry the schedule over to Saturday morning. Please review your travel and lodging plans now to ensure you're ready for this possibility.
We will use the sportsYou app for all schedule updates and communication during the weekend. Make sure all coaches and administrators supporting you are signed up and actively monitoring the app.
All coaches please remember that there are multiple events on Saturday and heavy construction in the area. Please ensure that you account for this when finalizing your arrangements and plans on Saturday. Arrive Early!
Friday Schedule Change – Wheelchair Events
Due to the potential for inclement weather, the schedule for the wheelchair events on Friday have been adjusted:
- Warmups for the wheelchair track events will be from 8:00-8:30 am.
- 100m events: Now begin at 10:00 AM (after the 3200m events for 2A & 5A)
- 400m event: Now begins at 11:00 AM
- Shot Put: No change – still scheduled for 12:30 PM (boys) and 2:30 PM (girls)
While much of the above relates to Friday, we would ask that all coaches prepare accordingly and thank you for your flexibility as we work to provide the best experience for your athletes.
UIL Essay Contest Finalists Announced!
Thank you to all students who entered. A list of finalists for 24-25 is posted here. All students who met the essay requirements will receive an evaluation form in May.
Speech State Tournament Information
The UIL Speech State Tournament webpage is open. Coaches who have contestants competing in the Region Meet will want to review it now, in the event your student qualifies for the State tournament due to the quick turnaround of state required forms. The deadline for schools to submit their LD debate judge and Prose/Poetry Documentation along with other tournament forms is Wednesday, April 30. Click here. Speech State Meet Honor Crew
Do you wish to recognize and reward the dedicated work of students on your speech squad? Here’s an incredible opportunity!
The State Speech Honor Crew is designed for exemplary speech students who are not already involved in the Speech State Meet but who demonstrate outstanding qualities. The Honor Crew assists in administering the State Meet through chairing competition rounds, timekeeping and serving as monitors, providing an amazing learning opportunity.
It will be necessary for those selected to be in Austin from late afternoon Sunday, May 18, through Tuesday late afternoon, May 20 . Attendance at a training session on Sunday at 6 p.m. is required. Students must be nominated by their speech coach. Nominations should be based on academic and competitive excellence in your speech and debate program. Maturity is vital so upperclassmen will receive preferential selection.
Students nominated must be academically capable and eligible. Every effort will be made to select members from all regions and all conferences. Coaches may nominate more than one student. For additional information about the nomination process, click here.

Wild Card teams will be tentative and posted for a 24-hour verification period. If you have disputes or questions, send them to academics@uiltexas.org. Wild card teams will be considered final on April 2, 2025 at 4 pm.
UIL Essay Contest Judging and Results
Thank you to students who have entered the UIL essay contest. Judges look forward to evaluating your essays. A list of finalists will be released on the UIL essay contest website towards the end of April. Best of luck to all who entered!
